Meet the Moms

We are so happy that you are here! We hope that the posts on this site encourage you, inform you, and maybe even make you smile!

We don’t claim to be experts on anything except for one thing: being overwhelmed moms. We are two sisters, four years apart in age but going through the same phase in our lives. Alana has four kiddos (ages 10, 8, 6 & almost 2) and Alisha just welcomed her third son (who joins his 6- and 3-year old big brothers).

Being an overwhelmed mom isn’t dependent on the number of kids you have, how old they are, or whether you work inside or outside the home. Any woman who has the privilege and the pressure of raising a child is susceptible.

We want to assure you that being a mom is one of the biggest challenges you will ever face — but you are not alone, you are stronger than you think, and you CAN do this. And it will all be SO worth it!

Here are a few more random facts about us…

Color: my favorite color has always been blue, just like my mother’s
Food: it’s really hard to pick just one favorite food, since I really just love to eat, but one food that I could eat everyday of the week is pizza!
Restaurant: Gattitown or Friday night family night with my boys at Dan’s Hamburgers (or as my almost three year old would say, “Hamburger Dan’s!)
Date night: any kind of dinner that I don’t have to cook, and that I don’t have to sit in my car to eat!
Way to spend time with her son Oliver: Oliver and I enjoy spending time outside, going to the park or swimming at the pool. He is also really big into Hot Wheels, so at least three or four times a day we sit down and play cars together…he really just loves to crash my car!!
Hobby: I’ve really begun to enjoy reading, especially at night…it always helps me fall asleep! I also enjoy scrapbooking, and baking!
Magazine:My sister’s used People magazines, and of course, Good Housekeeping
TV Show: Everybody Loves Raymond, House Hunters, and pretty much anything on the Food Network!
Recent movie: Kung Fu 2…I have to admit, I almost cried!

black and white, with a pop of color
Food: chicken fajitas or “The Chicken Bryan” at Carrabba’s
Restaurant: Carrabba’s or the Keg or On the Border (I can’t choose just one!)
Date night: dinner, dessert, and a bookstore
Way to spend time with her three kiddos (Emma, Logan, and Lucas): reading, playing outside, or going for an adventure
Hobby: the lines between hobby and “work” are blurred for me…I love photography, writing, scrapbooking, and reading
Magazine: I LOVE magazines…that is my one of my greatest weaknesses — I subscribe to 9 or 10! Some of my favorites are Redbook, Good Housekeeping, Family Circle, Woman’s Day, The Oprah Magazine…I like them all!
TV Show: I can watch almost anything on HGTV or the Food Network. I love Oprah: Behind the Scenes on the new OWN Network. I don’t really have a favorite — just whatever my husband and I can watch after the kids have gone to bed, preferably with a bowl of brownies and ice cream.
Recent movie: My husband has picked out the last few movies that we’ve gone to see, and I have to admit that I’ve enjoyed Thor, X-Men, and (despite it’s bad reviews) Green Lantern.  I like movies with suspense, action, romance, and a fulfilling ending — if it has a surprise twist, even better!
Favorite indulgence: purses
Biggest struggle right now: bedtime!  My husband and I just can’t manage to get all 3 kids to sleep in their own beds for the entire night. Ugh.
5 things that make me smile: a hot chocolate from Dunkin’ Donuts (any time of the year), a new pen or notepad or journal, watching my kiddos sleep (that doesn’t really happen often), listening to my daughter Emma read, playing trains with Lucas, watching Logan play the DS, going to dinner with my husband…whoops — was I only supposed to list 5? :-)

  1. Love these 2 moms!!!… and their mom, too!

  2. Enjoying your blog or website!
Have read both your books and we are waiting for the next book, Emma Thatcher, Story Catcher, the sequel??
Even though I am a Grandma it is still fun to read how you spend your time with your children and of course I especially like it when we get to see pictures/stories of your children’s Grandma Vicki and Grandpa Albert and how they impact the lives of your children.
